Carrollton Police Capt. Chris Dobbs said Andrew Donald Boatright, 35, was charged Thursday with aggravated assault, robbery, DUI and possession of prescription drugs not in original container.
Dobbs said officers responded to the motor bank ATM area at Community and Southern Bank on Newnan Street about 9:30 p.m. Thursday. According to the incident report, officers met with the 36-year-old victim who told them a man in a pick up truck had tried to use the ATM earlier.
“He said the ATM had taken the man’s card and didn’t give him any money,” Dobbs said.
After cussing at the machine, Boatright reportedly drove away.
“The victim then walked up to the ATM and inserted his debit card to make a withdrawal,” Dobbs said.
Boatright then reportedly drove around the bank and came back to the machine.
“He approached the victim, grabbed the card and said, ‘That’s my card,’” Dobbs said.
The suspect then grabbed the $100 dollars from the victim and reportedly said, “That’s my money.”
“Boatright then punched the victim in the left eye, knocking him into the bushes and cutting him right above the eye,” Dobbs said.
The suspect then reportedly warned the victim not to ever try to take his money and punched him two or three more times.
“The victim said he threw his black wallet and maroon PCS cell phone at Boatright to try to get him away,” Dobbs said. “Boatright picked them up and got in his truck and left. The victim was able to get a tag number and a vehicle description.”
As officers helped the victim locate his glasses and EMTs checked him out, one of the officers saw the suspect drive by. Officers got in their cars and followed the Boatright who made a right on Lee Street, then turned left on Bradley Street. Officers then performed a felony traffic stop.
“Once Boatright was in custody and the truck was cleared, the stolen wallet, the phone along with an open bottle of Crown Royal was observed in plain view of the front seat,” Dobbs said.
Officers impounded then impounded the truck, obtained a search warrant and were able to recover the victim’s wallet, cell phone and other items. The victim was treated and released from Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton.
Boatright remained in the Carroll County Jail with no bond Friday.
