The University of West Georgia baseball team dropped an 8-6 decision to Coker on Tuesday afternoon in the first of two games in two days in Hartsville, S.C., this week as part of the Wolves’ spring break trip.

UWG coach Skip Fite summoned Alex Allen from the bullpen and gave him the starting nod, where the Cobras jumped on him early for three runs in the first.

Clint Beland relieved Allen with one out in the third and wiggled out of a jam to keep it a 3-0 contest.

UWG (17-9) took the lead with a four-run fifth inning, with Dylan Coleman getting an RBI single and Blake McLemore delivering a two-run double. Coker (17-8) countered with a single run in the bottom of the frame to tie the game up at 4-all, but the Wolves came right back with a two-run sixth, getting an RBI double from Tyler Landmon, who came around to score on a throwing error for the 6-4 UWG advantage.

The Cobras got one run back in the bottom of the sixth and put up a 3-spot in the seventh to grab the lead for good, handing Randall Wright the loss on the hill after working 3.2 innings of relief, yielding four runs — two earned — on five hits.

McLemore had a huge day offensively for the Wolves, going 4-for-5 with two RBI.

West Georgia returns to action against the Cobras today at 3 p.m. in a single game.
