Less than two weeks after the shooting deaths of a Carroll County couple in their home, a grand jury has indicted the suspect on multiple counts of murder and armed robbery.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Daniel Buckner, 27, after he allegedly shot and killed John Wahl, 48, and his partner, Beth Allen Jackson, 43, inside their home on Peek Drive near Carrollton on June 10.

Buckner was indicted by a Carroll County grand jury this week on two counts of malice murder, two counts of felony murder and two counts of armed robbery.

According to the indictment, Buckner is accused of stealing an Oldsmobile from the couple that he used to travel to Atlanta later that night. He is also accused of stealing Wahl’s wallet by the use of a gun.

Sheriff’s deputies said Buckner, who had been staying with the couple, was visiting a friend in Atlanta on the evening of June 10 and described to him the slayings of Wahl and Jackson. The friend then called 911 to report what he had been told. Authorities said Buckner admitted to the shooting to the Atlanta police officers and to Carroll County sheriff’s investigators.

Sheriff’s Capt. Shane Taylor said a .38-caliber handgun was found inside the Oldsmobile Buckner had driven to Atlanta. Sheriff’s deputies then went to the couple’s house and found the bodies of Wahl and Jackson in the living room and kitchen.

Deputies said more than two shots had been fired inside the house.

Authorities said a neighbor told deputies that a car had been seen leaving the couple’s home around 3 p.m. on June 10. Only hours later, deputies learned of Buckner’s admission and were at the residence checking to see if the crime he claimed to have committed had actually occurred, deputies said.

Neighbors were shocked after learning about the double shooting in the Peek Squire Estates subdivision.

Authorities said the couple, whom family members described as married, had moved into the Peek Drive neighborhood about two months ago.

Deputies said Buckner met the couple through one of Buckner’s family members. He had lived with the couple for several weeks before the shooting.

Sheriff’s deputies said Buckner was wanted by Cobb County authorities for numerous charges, including child molestation.

According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, Buckner was out on parole at the time of his arrest. He had been convicted of first degree forgery, fraudulent use of a credit card, simple battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and theft by receiving stolen property in Cobb and Cherokee counties since 1998.
