Couey wins Atlanta Jr. Golf tourney
Alexander’s Tyler Couey turns in another solid performance. After winning the 18-hole Club Boys age 15-18 division at The Creek at Hard Labor in Rudledge Thursday, Couey takes home the title in Tuesday’s 18-hole Club Boys age 15-18 division of the Atlanta Junior Golf tournament at The Lion Golf Club in Bremen.
Couey finished with a 7-over 79 to easily take the tournament by seven strokes over Atlanta’s Harrison Pershing, Buchanan’s Matt Bell and Rome’s Seth McCullough. After birdieing the first hole, Couey’s best stretch was a period of five straight pars from No. 7-11.
Douglasville’s Cameron Jarvis also competed, taking eighth with a 106.
In the 18-hole Club Girls 7-18 division, Lithia Springs’ Hillary Lewis finished with a par on four of the final five holes and edged Chapel Hill’s Jessica Lee for second place with a 94. Lewis finished the day with five pars and a birdie to highlight her performance that ended in a tie with Marietta’s Meghan McCauley.
Sarah Cho of Suwanee finished with a 82 to take the division. Cho did not start on a good note but ended well. Over the final 14 holes, Cho finished with eight pars and two birdies.
In the other divisions, Nick Fazio of Carrollton shot a 76 to win the 18-hole Boys Open 13-14 division. Jordan Marlow of Carrollton won the 18-hole Boys open 15-18 division with a 77, beating Rockmart’s Griffin Garrett by two strokes.
In the nine-hole events, Kennesaw’s Brock Nixon (45) won the Club Boys 12-and-under group while Austin Adcock (44) of Cartersville took the Club Boys 13-and-over group. Harmanprit Kaur (48) of Tucker and Taylorville’s Hannah Deems (44) won the Girls Club 7-18 and Girls Open 7-18 divisions respectively.
