Tax protesters will rally around the Douglas County Courthouse for a July 4 TEA (Taxed Enough Already) party to demonstrate their discontent with big government spending.

The Douglasville TEA party will begin at 4 p.m. outside the courthouse located on Hospital Drive.

The local event is part of 1,271 TEA parties coordinated nationally by the American Family Association (AFA) of Tupelo, Mississippi as a continuation of the April 15 tax day TEA party protests.

Geoff Baird of Paulding County, organizer of the Douglas County event, said activities will begin with a demonstration along the road in front of the courthouse. About 5 p.m., the rally will move to the courthouse steps, Baird said.

“This is a nonpartisan event,” he said. “We welcome residents of all political parties who wish to express their frustration with increased taxes and out of control federal spending. We encourage everyone to bring their signs and flags and add their voices to the protest.”

Baird asks attendees not to single out individual officials but to keep the message focused on taxes, big government spending and suppression of individual rights and liberties.

“It’s time to demand that Washington, D.C. abide by the will and intent of the Constitution,” he said. “Here you can take a stand for your God-given, inalienable rights without having to suffer downtown Atlanta traffic.”

Baird said the Douglas County Republican Women’s Club, headed by Maureen Miller, will also be working on the local TEA party.
