Chad Martin and Emily Najar better stay in the pool for the remainder of their summer vacation.

Martin took home a pair of titles and Najar finished in the top two in two events during the 2009 Georgia Recreation and Parks Assocation (GRPA) District 5 Swim Meet at Boundary Waters Aquatic Center Saturday. By earning top- three finishes, Martin and Najar lead a group of 10 county swimmers into the GRPA State Swim Meet in Carrollton July 24-25.

Martin will actually be competing in three different events at the state meet. The 12-year old swimmer easily won the boys 11-12 50-yard backstroke (31.64) by over five seconds (Smyrna’s Taisen Garama, 36.96) but the 100-yard individual medley (IM) was much closer. Martin (1:12.49) had to hold off Cherokee’s Craig Wineman (1:14.94) for the victory.

Martin also swam a leg of the third-place winning 200-yard medley relay, teaming up with Christopher Snyder, Gauge Ferguson and Garrett Wagar.

Najar will compete in both the girls 9-10 100-yard IM and the 25-yard butterfly after finishing first and second, respectively. Najar dominated the field in the longer race, finishing in 1:13.07 and winning by over six seconds (Cherokee’s Kamryn Carter, 1:19.63). In the butterfly, Najar just couldn’t keep up with Douglas’s Chloe Miller (13.89), taking second in 14.32.

But Najar and Martin were not the only winners from the county as Arshad Crepsac also won a district title. Swimming in the boys 7-8 50-yard freestyle, Crepsac beat Nathan Bowers, also of Paulding, for the championship. Crepsac finsihed in 44.92 while Bowers needed 46.70 to compete the event.

Other top finishers from the county include Brendon Bowers (boys 9-10 100-yard IM, second, 1:34.23), Ashley Alexander (girls 9-10, 50-yard freestyle, third, 35.11) and Kirsten Lockhart (girls 7-8 25-yard breaststroke, third, 24.72).
