What a difference 24 hours made for the Boundary Waters Mustang All-Stars in the PONY South Zone East Region Baseball Tournament at Winston Park.

Just a day after giving up 12 runs in the first inning in a loss to Orlando, Boundary Waters scored seven runs in the first inning and went on to trounce Druid Hills 26-2 Friday in an elimination game. However the Georgia champs have little time to celebrate as they’ll face powerhouse Tamiami this morning at 10 a.m.

Boundary Waters took advantage of a very shaky Druid Hills defense in the opening inning. J.T. Siekerman led off with a walk and Payton Willliams’ fly ball was dropped by the right fielder. The right and center fielders had trouble with the sun during the entire game.

P.J. Milner tripled in the first two runs and the BW offense express was off and running. The next five runs scored on three errors and a walk as the advantage grew to 7-0. A hard-hit ball by Kyler Harris got past the shortstop and resulted in three runs, including Harris scoring.

Boundary Waters broke the game wide open, putting 10 runs on the board in the third. This time it was a combination of hits and Druid Hills mistakes that did the damage.

Austin Williams led off with a base hit and a walk and hit batter followed. Milner had the key hit in the huge inning - a bases loaded triple that increased the lead to 12-1.

Lofton Tidwell followed with a two-run inside-the-park home run that made it 14-1 and put the game completely out of reach. Siekerman climaxed the inning with a 2-RBI double.

Leading 17-1, Boundary Waters added nine more runs in the fourth. Payton Williams led off with a triple and scored on a hit by Milner. Later in the inning, Milner added a 2-run single.

Boundary Waters also had a successful evening on the mound and in the field. Milner worked the first three innings, allowing one run on one hit - a first inning triple. He retired nine of the 11 batters he faced - striking out seven. The BW defense was charged with just one error and ended the game with a double play.

In other Mustang action, Tamiami scored seven in the second inning and five in the fourth during a 15-5 victory over Margate.

Tamiami pitchers Freddy Zamora, Javier Valdez and Nico Montez helped shut down Margate for the victory.

Valdez did more than just pitch for Tamiami, hittin a three-run home run in the second inning.

Tamiami’s Ricky Duran (2-for-4), Zamora (2-for-4), Javier Martinez (2-for-3) and Pedro Sanchez (2-for-4) all had multi-hit games during the victory.

Margate was paced by Phillip Quinn, going 3-for-3 with a RBI in the losing effort.
