The City Council approved two lower property tax rates for Bremen on Monday - one for the Carroll County side, a different one for the Haralson County side.

The Haralson County Bremen millage rate will be 7.138, a drop from the previous 7.18 mills; the Carroll County tax will be 7.103 mills.

The motion carried unanimously and goes into effect immediately.

Bremen City Manager Perry Hicks called the rollback rate- the tax that would bring in the same revenues as last year - a rational decision.

“The city is taking into account reassessed growth digest,” he said.

The decrease is not a large one. Someone living in the Haralson County portion of Bremen with a $100,000 home would pay approximately $285.63 in taxes - $2 less than the previous amount. Residents in Carroll County with $100,000 homes will pay $3 less.

The Bremen city budget passed in July already funds all public services, so the city opted to roll back the millage rate.
