A fire early Friday morning destroyed an old and uninhabited house and barn.
Carroll County Emergency Management Agency director Tim Padgett said via e-mail that Engine 1 responded to a report of smoke near Wiley Wilson and Reavesville roads in Bowdon.
“They found a woods fire and an old house and barn already burned to the ground,” Padgett wrote.
Firefighters found an ATV, motorcycle and generator, which was running outside the building.
“They assumed they had two fatalities,” Padgett wrote. “Further investigation showed that a family just purchased the property and was there yesterday (Thursday) till around 10 p.m. for Thanksgiving activities. They had a fire in the fire place and also used some candle (sic) before they left.”
