A Buchanan man suspected of taking part in numerous thefts and burglaries was arrested earlier this months, and investigators are still recovering property they believe he stole.
Jesse James Pyles, 28, was arrested Feb. 1 and charged with two counts of being party of a crime of burglary and one count of being party to a crime of felony theft by taking. Pyles was rearrested Feb. 5 under the Racketeering, Influenced and Corrupt Organizations statute.
Carroll County sheriff’s Investigator Jimmy Adams said Pyles was arrested for three crimes in Carroll County: a July 2007 burglary at Hyatt Lawn and Garden in Bowdon, a January theft of a John Deere tractor and trailer from Classic Gardens in Carrollton; and a second January burglary at Hyatt Lawn, where 13 chainsaws were stolen.
Adams said there was video surveillance of the crimes and Pyles had vehicles that matched those shown on the tapes.
“He had access to a vehicle that we had the description of from the video,” Adams said.
At the time of his arrest, Adams said Pyles owned a 1991 Chevrolet Caprice Classic, the car seen in the video of the most recent burglary at Hyatt Lawn.
Since Pyles was arrested, Adams said investigators have been traveling around west Georgia and Alabama recovering property he allegedly stole.
“We’re seeing more and more of these crimes turning into multi-jurisdictional cases,” Carroll County Sheriff Terry Langley said.
Some of the missing property has been recovered by investigators.
“Wednesday night, myself and Investigator Reagen Clayton went to Cherokee County to try to recover the John Deere tractor and trailer.” Adams said. “...All of this stuff ties back to Jesse Pyles. He is suspected of being involved in other thefts as far south as Troup County.”
The alleged crimes may have been committed on order.
“It appears people would tell him what they wanted, and he’d go out and steal it,” Adams said.
Pyles was released from the Carroll County jail on bond. Adams said other arrests could be made in the case, and investigators are still working to recover missing
property.
