Two men were arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and possession of drug-related objects after authorities said they found suspected methamphetamine in their car.

Carroll County sheriff’s Investigator Telisha Gibson said Richard Franklin Padgett, 49, of Tallapoosa, and Michael Frederick Meixmer, 58, of Mt. Zion, were both arrested after Carroll County sheriff’s deputies and Carrollton police officers working the joint Aggressive Criminal Enforcement unit saw the men driving on Interstate 20 in Villa Rica on Aug. 25 without wearing seat belts.

Gibson said about $1,200 in methamphetamine was found in the men’s possession. Both men told investigators they had recently purchased the drugs in Atlanta and were headed home when they were pulled over, according to Gibson.

• Carrollton police K-9 Officer Matt Kenerly said a man acting nervous raised his suspicion on Monday after the officer saw him try to cover his face while the police patrol car passed on Robert Hendrix Drive.

Kenerly said Terrion Kidd, 28, of Carrollton was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana after approximately an ounce of the suspected drug was discovered in a plastic bag stuffed in Kidd’s pants.

Kenerly reported that Kidd reached into his back pocket to pull out his identification before he fidgeted with the bag. Kidd told the officer he was walking to a friend’s house before he was stopped on the side of the street, according to Kenerly.

• On Sunday, a clerk at the Race Trac on Old Airport Road told sheriff’s deputies that a man had walked into the convenience store and tried to buy two 30-can packages of Coors Light Beer. Since state law forbids the sale of alcohol by a store on Sunday, the clerk refused to allow the man to purchase the beer. In response, according to the report, the man walked out of the store with the beer without paying and fled in a black Dodge pickup truck.

• Carrollton police Capt. Chris Dobbs said a 1996 Honda Civic that was reported stolen from a driveway on Ashgate Way was later recovered Friday on Old Airport Road.

Dobbs said police discovered the vehicle after it had been involved in a roll-over crash. No one was in the vehicle when officers arrived.

• Carrollton police were sent to the Bank of North Georgia on Bankhead Highway Friday after a woman allegedly tried to pass a counterfeit cashier’s check from Tennessee, according to police. The woman had fled before police arrived.

• Police said two vehicles at Carrollton Motors were damaged on Friday. According to police, a Mercedes was scratched and the hood of a Buick appeared to have been walked on by someone.

• Authorities are searching for Johnanne McCarty, 47, who is wanted for first degree forgery. Anyone with information on her whereabouts may contact Crime Stoppers at 770-838-STOP. Callers may remain anonymous and a cash reward is offered for information leading to an arrest.
