A New York man was arrested Thursday in the Bronx in connection with the Aug. 29 slaying of Winston resident Shawn P. McMahon.

The suspect was identified as Richard P. Livingston, 20, of New York City, according to Douglas County Chief Deputy Stan Copeland. He said Livingston was apprehended near a homeless shelter by U.S. marshals and members of the Douglasville-Douglas County Major Case Unit.

“Items belonging to the victim were recovered during the arrest, and the suspect is facing extradition back to Georgia on murder charges and other charges forthcoming,” Copeland said Friday afternoon.

He said members of the Major Case Unit had been in New York City three days this week searching for the suspect.

“They had developed enough information to get a warrant,” Copeland said. “He is being held in a New York City jail, awaiting an extradition decision.”

He said the suspect apparently knew McMahon, and officials believe the motive was robbery.

McMahon’s body was found last Saturday afternoon in his Patrick Place residence, just off Shell Road, south of State Highway 166. The State Crime Lab said McMahon died of blunt force trauma.

“The Major Case Unit did a fantastic job,” Copeland said. “They had a suspect in custody in less than a week. They deserve all the credit in the world.”

I worked with Shaun for a couple of months with an MLM company that he was working with that was just adding new VoIP cell phone services. I was too busy with my own business to do anything with it but Shaun seemed like an amazing, hard working and very loving person. I was shocked to learn of what happened. This is a great loss for many people.

I happen to do business with shawn(Elijah) on the phone but never met him. Yes, he was a sweet, kind and God Fearing person. If anyone has a picture of him could you please send it to vinetted@bellsouth.net. I would live to identify the face with personality.

I wish you guys could have met Shawn he was the sweetest person in the world with a HUGE heart. He was very successful entrepreneur. He had a passion to help the less fortunate. He was just trying to give this man a new chance in life by helping him learn his business so he could provide for himself & get off the streets. He was told many times that he can't save everyone with fear that he is doing to much. But he didn't care he loved everyone. I am sure Shawn is singing with angels in heaven right now & I am sure of another thing - He has forgiven this man that took his life. Sounds crazy but the man loved the Lord & he was a great example of how we should all act.

Why in the world is Shell Road and 166 considered Winston? Is Winston really the closest post office? Wow.

I would say if McMahon was murdered by this "person" then McMahon WAS deprived of his right to live.. and yes taxpayers will pay for this scumbags trial - And if the suspect is black I am sure it will be a long-drawn out high dollar trial with all the racebaters cheering for their man...

This guy will now get a Million Dollar trial at the expense of the taxpayers.

We don't want to deprive him of his "Rights" even though he probably deprived Shawn P. McMahon of his right to live.
