Voters will have a lot of choices when they step into the voting booth for city elections in November.

The number of candidates who recently qualified to run for municipal offices in the upcoming election is the highest seen in years, said Carroll County Elections Supervisor Patti Brown-Traylor.

“We had a lot more people qualify this time than we had in previous municipal years. In the past, in some places only the incumbents qualify, but that didn’t happen this time except for Bowdon and Whitesburg,” Brown-Traylor said. “Some of the people who qualified said they thought that the people should have a choice. ... It seemed like all of the municipalities had a lot more people qualify this time.”

In her more than three decades with the Carroll County Elections Department, she said this year marks one of the highest turnouts for those qualifying for municipal elections.

Altogether, there are 19 seats up for grabs on Nov. 3 for the Carrollton, Bowdon, Mt. Zion, Temple, Villa Rica and Whitesburg city councils, as well as the Carrollton City Board of Education.

Early voting will begin several weeks prior to election day.
