The West Georgia Museum of Tallapoosa is collecting decorated Christmas trees for the Christmas Tree Fantasy display at the museum, which in past years has showcased trees adorned with ornaments ranging from popcorn to pine cones.
Although the display wasn’t held last year, Museum Curator Mildred MacElroy says she wants “as many trees as possible” this year. Participants have until Tuesday, Nov. 17, to loan “completely decorated” Christmas trees that will be exhibited at the museum through Sunday, Jan. 1.
MacElroy says the display will be presented on Thanksgiving afternoon as part of the downtown Christmas Open House festivities held every year in Tallapoosa. While strolling to the shops downtown, MacElroy invites the public to come drop by the museum to see a wide array of ornaments that may be featured in the display.
“Some of the ornaments in the past have included the Garden Club’s tree that had flower pots and one person had photographs of old homes in Tallapoosa on their tree,” MacElroy said.
Other ornaments she’s seen over the years include cotton balls, candy canes, pine cones and popcorn.
MacElroy says she’s received several inquiries about participation this year, and the museum’s Chair of Decorating, Catherine McLeroy, looks forward to seeing what trees will line the corridors of the museum this year.
