Election officials were expecting a light turnout Tuesday as early voting got under way for the Dec. 1 runoff race.
The two runoff elections include 11 county precincts which will be voting in the 35th District Georgia State Senate race between Donzella James and Torrey O. Johnson, both Democrats. The winner will fill out the remaining term of Sen. Kasim Reed who retired to run for mayor of Atlanta.
The other runoff race is for the Mirror Lake precinct in the Villa Rica City Council, Ward 4, contest between incumbent Joey Kelley and challenger Patrick Henrickson.
Early voting will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday in the voter registration office on the first floor of the county courthouse. Voting will continue through Nov. 25, the day before Thanksgiving. The courthouse will be closed on both Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday.
The 11 precincts involved in the 35th Senate District vote include Annette Winn, Beulah, Boundary Waters, Golden Methodist, Colonial Hills, Old Courthouse, Deer Lick Park, Factory Shoals Middle, Lithia Springs High, Stewart Middle and Turner Middle.
