Teresa (Laird) Philyaw is Hiram’s new Post 3 representative on the City Council.
Philyaw took 64 votes in Tuesday’s runoff election to Billy Sims’ 46. There were three provisional ballots, but not enough to possibly influence the result, said Paulding County Elections Supervisor Deidre Holden.
Philyaw, a retired real estate agent, will take the oath of office Dec. 15 along with fellow new council members Earlene Graham (Post 5) and Derrick Battle (Post 4).
Philyaw and Sims were the top vote-getters in the general election Nov. 3, but neither had more than 50 percent of the vote, so a runoff was required. She has said she will focus on job-creation and managing growth.
