4-H Gym Dawgs Meet

Haralson County 4-H is attending the University of Georgia Gym Dawgs gymnastics meeting on Saturday, Jan. 9, in Athens. The cost is $10 and is open to 4-H members. Deadline is Dec. 16. There is a 20 member limit. Please call Haralson County Extension Office at 770-646-2026 with questions. Haralson County Cooperative Extension is an equal opportunity organization.

Kids Book Bunch

The Buchanan-Haralson Public Library continues their activities for area children on Tuesday afternoons at 4 p.m. The fun continues Dec. 15 Harvesting Hope, Dec. 22 with Crazy for Crafts, and Dec. 29 with Dumpling Soup.

Walk-n-Talk Book Club

The Buchanan-Haralson Public Library Walk-n-Talk Book Club continues at 5 p.m. Wednesdays. Get in shape while you discuss your most recent literary adventure.

4-H BB Team

The Haralson County 4-H BB Team will be having a fun shoot/Christmas party 9 a.m. Saturday. The public is invited to come watch them compete against Carroll County’s BB Team. The Haralson County BB Team will also be collecting toys and food for local families. Anyone wishing to donate may bring an unwrapped toy or individually wrapped food items, such as Ramen noodles, microwavable bowls of soup or Spaghetti O’s, individually wrapped snacks and snack cakes, small chip bags, pop tarts, pudding cups, juice boxes, crackers, or instant grits and oatmeal. Food will be donated to local children at Haralson County Middle School to take home with them over Christmas break. Toys will benefit the Brmen First United Methodist Church’s Caring Christmas toy drive, which serves all children of Haralson County. The fun shoot/Christmas party will be at the Callaway Livestock Pavilion in Buchanan.

Gymnastics

The Bremen Parks & Recreation Department is offering Gymnastics for ages 4-14. Classes for Beginners 4 to 5 p.m.; Intermediate 5 to 6 p.m. And Advance from 6 to 7 p.m. All Sessions will be held at the Activity Center on Thursday’s beginning Jan. 7. Cost $40 per Session. Classes will fill up quickly, so pease register your child soon. You can register one session at a time or register and pay for all five sessions at once. Toys for Tots

Demand is very high this year for toys at local Toys for Tots distribution sites. Organizers in Haralson and Carroll Counties are asking for 30,000 toys this year as demand has increased by 35 percent. Unfortunately, only 2,500 have been collected so far. To donate a new, unwrapped toy for local children in-need simply drop by one of the designated drop off sites in Haralson County. They include the Haralson Gateway-Beacon office, Tallapoosa City Hall, Buchanan City Hall, Waco City Hall, Bremen City Hall, Buchanan Elementary, Buchanan 1st UMC, Haralson Middle, Dollar General and Family Dollar in Tallapoosa, West Haralson Elementary, AllState Insurance in Bremen, Dollar General in Bremen, Alliance Insurance in Bremen, Fortress Storage in Bremen, and many others. Also, volunteers are needed to sort and distribute toys for parent pick-up the week of Dec. 14-18. Help is also needed to pick up toys from collection sites around the county. Toys will be distributed at the Haralson County School System District Office on 299 Robertson St. in Tallapoosa. We will need help each day from 6 - 8:30 p.m. the week of Dec. 14-18 sorting and distributing toys. Museum

The West Georgia Museum of Tallapoosa is still accepting pictures of native birds from the public to place on display in the museum. Bring your 8x10 photos of your native winter birds and the museum will frame it and label it for you. For more information, call 770-574-3125.

Possum Drop

The city of Tallapoosa is taking donations to offset the costs of hosting the Possum Drop this year. All funds raised will help pay for the fireworks and the band. To help out the city, call City Hall, 770-574-2345.

Pecans For Sale

The Buchanan-Haralson Public Library has (2009 crop) pecans for sale! One pound of cracked pecans for only $5. One pound of shelled pecans for only $7. Stock up so you have plenty for your holiday baking. All profits from pecan sales benefit the library. Call 770-646-3369.

Haralson County Angel Tree

We are now accepting applications for Christmas assistance for children under the age of 16 who are residents of Haralson County. Applications must be filled out in person by the parent or legal guardian at the Commissioners Office, 155 Van Wert St., Buchanan. Anyone who wishes to assist with the angel tree or make a donation may come in or contact Alison at 770-646-2002.

Supper With Santa

Join us this Christmas Season in Downtown Buchanan at the Historical Haralson County Courthouse for Supper With Santa at 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12. We will have a Spaghetti Supper plus you will receive a 5x7 professional photo of your child with Santa. Advance tickets for $5 can be picked up at Sherry’s Tax Service. Turkey Shoot

Tallapoosa Masonic Lodge No. 126 will host a turkey shoot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 12. Bring some of your own shells for Wild Card shooting.

Tallatoona Haralson

Tallatoona Haralson has funds available to assist with rent, mortgage or utility bills for households who have a separation notice due to lack of work and meets the income requirements. For more information, call 770-646-3845.

Hands of Creation, Inc.

Hands Of Creation will be taking applications for Holiday Wishes Christmas Baskets and Toys from Dec. 1 to Dec. 15. You can pick up a application at Family & Children Service in Buchanan ask for Mr. Reid, Tallatoona of Buchanan, City Hall of Tallapoosa, Haralson Gateway-Beacon, and the Tallapoosa Library.

Christmas Ham

One hundred Christmas hams with four side items will be given away by Mount Holly Church through the HOPE program. Come by Tuesday, Dec. 15, and Wednesday, Dec. 16, between the hours of 1 and 3 p.m. or 5 and 7 p.m. and pick up your food voucher. Mount Holly is located at 4685 Hwy. 27 N in Carrollton.

Haralson Co Gifted Association

The Haralson County Gifted Association (an affiliate of the Georgia Association for Gifted Children) will be holding meetings on the 3rd Monday of each month, with the next meeting on December 21st @ 6:30 pm at the Georgia Power Building in Tallapoosa. Parents, grandparents, teachers, community and business leaders with in an interest in supporting the needs of gifted children and teachers in Haralson County schools are encouraged to attend. The committees we will be filling are as follows: Business and Community, Public Relations, School Board & PTA, Fund Raising, Grants and Scholarships, Legislation, Field Trips & Socialization, Membership, By-Laws, and Nomination. Georgia Council of the Blind

The Georgia Council of the Blind will have a Christmas party at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Bethany Christian Church, Highway 61, near Ryans in Carrollton. Family and friends are welcome.

Veterans of Haralson County

The West Ga. Museum of Tallapoosa would like a copy of your military photo with your name, year of service, branch of service and any other information you would like to share, to be displayed at the museum. You can drop your photo off at the museum or mail to the museum at P.O. Box 725, Tallapoosa, GA 30176. After we copy your photo your original can be picked up anytime at the museum. We will be accepting photos until May 1, 2010. (The sooner the better) Come visit and see what we have done.
