Mason Massey, age 12 of Douglasville, took the checkered flag in a close race Saturday at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele. Massey and Justin Thomas from Woodstock put on an exciting race with many lead changes, sometimes several times a lap before Massey was passed on the white flag lap only to regain the lead at the checkered flag.

Massey is the points leader in the Young Lions division in the Georgia Winter series.

Massey gave credit to Billy Fulsom and Nick Hill for their help on his race car.

The next race is the Ice Cold Shriners Bowl at Lanier Speedway in Braselton Jan. 9 and 10.
