Mr. Gary Duane Poorman, age 70, of Villa Rica, GA passed away in the early morning of December 23, 2009. He was born November 13, 1939 in Lock Haven, PA, the son of the late Wilson and Margaret Poorman. Gary is survived by his wife of 48 years, Norene Bilyou Poorman, his three children, Susan Myers and her husband David, Edward Poorman and his wife Lynne, and Lynda Champion and her husband Jeff; his sister Patricia P. Scheid and her husband James, brother Terry Poorman and his wife Cheryl, and his five grandchildren, Laura Myers Carr and her husband Cody, Andrew Poorman, Matthew Poorman, Amanda Myers and Nicholas Champion, sister-in-law, Sylvia Poorman; numerous nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded by his brother Paul A. Poorman of Akron, Ohio.

Gary was a veteran of the US Navy, 1st Class Petty Officer in charge of radio communications. After the military, he attended Williamsport Technical Institute until his employment at HRB Singer in State College, PA. His career in communications spanned the last 50 years beginning at Mel Par in Virginia; Hardy Richardson Radio Shop in Washington, D.C., servicing the Capitol police radios and area customers; Computer Sciences Corp. for transit systems, including Marta. He then became a co-founder of Loudoun Communications, Inc. as Chief Engineer in Douglasville, GA, from which he retired in 1993. Gary loved hamming and was a lifetime member of ARRL, and an Amateur Radio Operator for 55 years with the current call sign of K4VT. Gary loved gardening, home improvement and restoration of antique amateur radios. He was a wonderful husband, brother, father and friend and he will be greatly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him. Gary was Methodist by Faith.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, December 27, 2009 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 4:00 PM in the Rosehaven Chapel with Reverend Mike Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehaven Memorial Park.

How often we think of relatives we knew long ago and wonder whatever became of them only to read their obituary. My deepest condolences to Gary's family. rschadt@verizon.net
