Two suspects wanted in a Powder Springs home invasion crashed on Wednesday on Interstate 20 east about a half-mile from the Chapel Hill Road exit.

According to Lt. Matt Boyd, of the Powder Springs Police Department, officers received a call about a burglary at a residence at approximately 11:06 a.m. Wednesday. A female responding to a knock on her door opened it to find three males there, Boyd said.

The males forced entry into the home, held the woman at gunpoint and tied her up, he said, recounting the victim’s story.

“They asked for cash and took an undetermined amount of cash and a variety of other items,” Boyd said.

After leaving the residence, two of the males were discovered walking down the street, according to Boyd. When police officers “attempted to make contact” with them, they fled in opposite directions.

One man was apprehended at the scene and taken into custody. The other suspect was described by Boyd as a “skinny Hispanic male, 5’10” to six feet tall, about 25 or 26 years old, light skinned, and wearing blue jeans and a gray hoodie.”

He is still at large, Boyd said.

While officers were in the process of working the home invasion and trying to round up the suspects, a car with two men inside arrived in the area.

“We believe they were there to pick up the two guys (who were) walking. Those individuals fled when they found out the police was there,” Boyd said.

The chase went into Douglas County, back out and onto Interstate 20, according to Boyd. The Georgia State Patrol, Powder Springs police, Cobb County, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Douglasville Police Department responded to the call.

The vehicle left the roadway near Chapel Hill Road, struck a tree and caught on fire.

“One (suspect) was arrested in the car and one ran and was arrested,” said Capt. Greg Graff, of the Douglasville Police Department.

Boyd confirmed that one suspect was taken to WellStar Cobb Hospital, two are in custody, and one suspect is still at large.

The investigation is ongoing, Boyd said, and the Powder Springs Police Department has not released identities of neither the suspects nor the victim.
