MOAA
The McIntosh Trail Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) will meet Jan. 19 at 6:45 p.m. in the clubhouse at Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton. For information call 770-830-0284.
Haralson Rec. sign-ups
Baseball, softball, T-ball and soccer sign-ups will go through Feb. 12. at the old Tallapoosa gym and Rayford Roberts baseball field. T-Ball is $40 for 5 and 6 year olds, must be 5 by May 1, 2010. Baseball and softball for 7 and 8 year olds, 9 and 10, 11 and 12 and 14 and 14 is $55. Soccer U6-U12 is $40. For more information, call the Rec. office at 770-574-3120.
Art show
There will be a juried art show and sale Feb. 6-13 at the Sewell Mill Facility in Bremen.
Census Jobs
The Census Bureau is hiring local residents for jobs assisting the 2010 Census. Interested parties are asked to call 1-866-861-2010 or 1-800-877-8339 tty or go online at www.2010censusjobs.gov. All jobs are temporary, part time and very flexible. Applicants will be asked to take a 30 minute test. A sample test can be downloaded from the web site. Bilingual applicants are needed. Veterans are given priority.
Museum
The West Georgia Museum of Tallapoosa is still accepting pictures of native birds from the public to place on display in the museum. Bring your 8x10 photos of your native winter birds and the museum will frame it and label it for you. For more information, call 770-574-3125.

Haralson Co. Gifted Association
The Haralson County Gifted Association (an affiliate of the Georgia Association for Gifted Children) will be holding meetings on the 3rd Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Georgia Power Building in Tallapoosa. Parents, grandparents, teachers, community and business leaders with in an interest in supporting the needs of gifted children and teachers in Haralson County schools are invited. Veterans of Haralson County
The West Ga. Museum of Tallapoosa would like a copy of your military photo with your name, year of service, branch of service and any other information you would like to share, to be displayed at the museum. You can drop your photo off at the museum or mail to the museum at P.O. Box 725, Tallapoosa, GA 30176. After we copy your photo your original can be picked up anytime at the museum. We will be accepting photos until May 1, 2010. (The sooner the better) Come visit and see what we have done.

Senior Valentine’s Day Party
The Bremen Senior Center invites all seniors to join them in welcoming the White Family Singers at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Senior Center. The White Family is back by special request to delight audiences with their variety of musical talents.
W.H.E. School Council Meeting
West Haralson Elementary School is having a School Council meeting at 6 p.m., Mon., January 25, in the multipurpose room. All parents or guardians welcome.
Pecans and Peanuts
Delicious 2009 Georgia pecans and peanuts are available at the Buchanan-Haralson Public Library in Buchanan. Pecans sell for $7 per pound shelled and $5 cracked. Peanuts are $5 per lb. shelled and $4.50 in the shell. Proceeds benefit the library.
Training Course
The Haralson County Extension Office will offer a Private Applicator Training opportunity Monday, Jan. 25, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. This class is for individuals who need to purchase/apply restricted use pesticides on their own property. Book Club
The Tallapoosa lunch bunch book club will meet at 1 p.m. Feb. 2 in the Tallapoosa Library reading room to discuss the book “To Kill a Mocking Bird.” The group meets the first Tuesday of each month in the library. New members are welcome. For more information, call Karen at 770-574-3124.

Carrollton AARP
Carrollton AARP President Roberta Brown announced the next meeting will be held at Cottage Landing, 150 Cottage Lane, for a hosted luncheon at 1 p.m. on Jan. 26. This is necessary to prepare adequate meals for the attendees. The program will be presented by noted local vocalist Cloma Chandler. Carrollton AARP welcomes visitors of all ages to their meetings. The Haralson County Board of Education will have a called meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at the Haralson County Board of Education District Office, 299 Robertson Ave. Tallapoosa.
Community Chorus
Do you enjoy singing? This is a great opportunity for you to put your skills to work. Through a local grant, an adult community chorus is being formed in Haralson County. Rehearsals will be on Thursday nights from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the Fine Arts Building at Haralson County High School to prepare for a March performance. Senior Day
The Historic Buchanan Courthouse and Buchanan-Haralson Library will host a senior day in conjunction with the traveling Smithsonian exhibit “Key Ingredients: America by Food” from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Jan. 27. The exhibit is free and will be open just to seniors (55+) during these hours. Dr. Ann McCleary, Center for Public History, University of West Georgia, will discuss the exhibit companion (and award-winning) catalog “Food, Family, and Community: A Collection of Georgia Memories.” Holly Garner, Staff Nutritionist from Higgins General Hospital will discuss proper nutrition for seniors. Exhibit will open to the general public at noon. Handicap access is available.
Tallapoosa Library
The Tallapoosa Friends of the Library will begin hosting book sales every Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit the Library at the old Tallapoosa High School. Books range in price from 25 cents to $3.
Farming Workshop
A Beginners School for Small Farmers: Too Much to Mow, What Do I Grow? will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 3 at Bartow County Extension Office, 320 West Cherokee Ave., Cartersville, Ga. The fee for the workshop is $10 (includes lunch). Registration deadline is Jan. 27!
