Rabies Clinic

There will be a Rabies Clinic on March 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Helton Howland Park (where the tank is on U.S. 78.) Dr. Jonathan Hatchett of Price Creek Veterinary Hosptial will host the clinic. All animals over the age of three months can be vaccinated. $10 per animal and are for a single year vaccine. All dogs must be on a leash and all cats must be in a pet carrier.

Tax assessors

The Haralson County Board of Tax Assessors will meet March 9 at 8 a.m. at 4266 Ga. Hwy. 120, Buchanan. For information call 770-646-2022.

Senior trips

The Buchanan Seniors are going to Nashville for a Show Trip April 26-30. Join the fun-loving seniors for four nights and five days of entertainment. Planned activities include a dinner party with entertainment, visits to Loretta Lynn’s ranch, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Grand Ole Opry, a guided tour of Nashville, and a ride on a Delta flat boat inside the Opryland Hotel. Sewell get-together

All present and former employees of Sewell Manufacturing Company are invited to the annual get-together on March 6 at 11:30 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church fellowship hall, 312 Atlantic Ave., Bremen. Bring a covered dish and drink. For information call 770-537-5632.

Museum

The West Georgia Museum of Tallapoosa is accepting pictures of native birds from the public to place on display in the museum. Bring your 8x10 photos of your native winter birds and the museum will frame it and label it for you. For more information, call 770-574-3125.

Senior Center Fund Raiser

On Saturday, March 27, at 5:30 p.m. the Haralson County Senior Center in Buchanan will host a spaghetti dinner at the Haralson Activity Center to raise funds for new tires for their van. Dinner tickets are $5.50. The Paul Family will preform bluegrass and gospel music. About 20 Framed and laminated puzzles will also be up for auction. 2009-2010 Heating Assistance Program

Tallatoona HRDC is asking if you need help with heat? Contact 770-646-3845 with total of household members and total gross income for that household to see whether or not you are eligible for assistance. Clients are served on a first come first serve basis. If you have not received energy assistance since Nov. 1, 2009. contact for your local county office today. Think warmth, think Tallatoona! Buchanan Women’s Club

The Buchanan Women’s Club meets at 4 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month at the Edna Wyatt Building in Buchanan.

Doll Exhibit

The West Georgia Museum of Tallapoosa is asking for residents to bring in their dolls for a special spring exhibit lasting through April. Dolls will be exhibited in showcases and will not be handled. Museum will provide legal loan agreement for donations. Contributors will be able to pick up the dolls after the end of April. Anyone interested should drop off their dolls as soon as possible at the museum between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Free Clothing

Haralson County Ministries, located at 218 Tallapoosa St. Bremen has free clothing. No referral needed, winter clothing from 9 a.m. to noon. You must be a resident of Haralson County.

Beard Contest

Gentlemen, grow your beards! That’s right, it’s time to get started growing your beard for the longest beard contest that will be held in conjunction with Tallapoosa’s 150th birthday. For more information, contact Kate Gardner or Jonathan James at Tallapoosa City Hall at 770-574-8812.

Supper With the Sheriff

Haralson County Sheriff Eddie Mixon has issued an A.P.B. (All Points Bulletin) for the best chili cooks in the region. As part of his “Fourth Annual Supper with the Sheriff” events being held on Thursday, April 8, at the Haralson County Recreation Center in Buchanan. Mixon is organizing a chili cook-off. Expert chili cooks from all across the region are invited to participate. Prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place teams and there is no fee to enter. Bremen Cruise-in

The fifth consecutive downtown Bremen Saturday night cruise-in starts March 13, sponsored by the Bremen DDA and organized by a group of locals known loosely as the Bremen Liars Club. The cruise in will the second Saturday of every month from 5 p.m. until dark, March through October and staged on Tallapoosa Street. The Liars Club provides music, trivia, door prizes and cash drawings with an overall peoples choice winner chosen by attendee voting. There is no entrance fee and a hamburger stand with drinks and snacks is available. Cars, trucks, motorcycles and even lawn mowers, tractors or a nice one-horse wagon are welcome and can number upwards of 50 ranging from “work in progress” to high-end street rods and antiques. Entrants are registered and numbered to facilitate people’s choice voting but the only requirement is to have fun.

Hunter Education Class

A Hunter Education Class is being offered on March 9 and 11 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. You must attend both nights to be certified. The class will be held at the Haralson County Government Complex Center located at 155 Van Wert St. Buchanan GA (behind the Tax Commissioner’s Office). Please bring your social security number. Pre-Registration is recommended by logging on to the State of Georgia Department of Natural Resources Web site at: www.georgiawildlife.com. There is no charge for the class. Buchanan Woman’s Club

AARP Free Tax Help

Free Tax Help at the Library. AARP Tax-Aide Foundation will offer tax preparation assistance for taxpayers with middle and low income, with special attention to those age 60 and older. Sessions will be held at the Warren Sewell Library of Bremen and are scheduled 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following Friday mornings: March 12, March 26 and April 9. First come, first served. No appointment necessary, but you must arrive by noon. Be sure to bring your ID and social security card.

Relay for Life

Please plan to join Haralson County Relay for Life at all our meetings even if you do not necessarily have a team, but would simply like to be a part of our Relay. We always need fresh ideas! The meeting dates are as follows: Monday, April 5, at 7 p.m. at the Haralson County Chamber of Commerce in Waco.
