The U.S. Census Bureau is seeking to recruit around 100 to 125 temporary employees in Haralson County.

United States Census Office Manager Jeff Wright said the pay for the temporary Census jobs range from $9.25 to $13.25 an hour.

Haralson County is about 30 percent short of recruiting goals, Wright said.

Available jobs are part-time and full-time temporary positions.

“The full-time jobs will only last several months. They’re temporary in nature because the census is temporary in nature. Most of the jobs only last for a month up to three or four months, depending on which position they are hired for,” Wright said.

Potential employees must take a recruiting assessment to see if they meet qualifications. The tests take around 30 minutes to complete and analyze basic skills, such as reading and comprehension. Test takers must bring two forms of valid U.S. identification to the assessment.

Four upcoming employee recruiting tests will take place in Haralson County this month. In Tallapoosa, tests will be taken on Tuesday, March 9 and 16, at Helton Howland Park Community Center at 5:30 p.m. In Buchanan, tests are being held on Thursday, March 11 and 18, at City Hall.

“Working for the U.S. Census Bureau is a good experience. It helps people to get educated and understand the value of the U.S. Census and why we do what we do,” Wright said.

Employees must be at least 18, able to read, write and speak English, pass a background check and meet other criteria. For more information about working for the U.S. Census, visit www.2010.census.gov or call 1-866-861-2010.
