The Haralson County Board of Commissioners gave out two proclamations to commendable groups at their meeting held at Bremen High School Wednesday.
The board proclaimed March 2010 as American Legion Post No. 143 month. Established in 1935, American Legion Post No. 143 is located in Carrolton and has Haralson County members.
Board member Robert Birkey presented the proclamation to Sam Pyle with Post No. 143.
“West Georgia veterans will continue to benefit from this exemplarily organization for many years to come,” he said.
The Bremen High School Wrestling Team was also recognized for becoming 2010 Class A State Champions.
Board Member Eric Robinson presented the proclamation to Coach Tony Armas. Individual team members were named and applauded.
“Any time we can show support to our young people is an opportunity that’s well deserved because these are some young men that worked tirelessly to become a part of not only their high school but also members of this community,” said Commission Chairman Allen Poole.
In other business, County Clerk Allison Palmer said the application for a $9 million low-interest loan and grant package to renovate the closed West Georgia Boot Camp into a new county jail is nearing completion. The USDA will meet with the county to finish the remainder of the application and send it in for federal approval.
“They said at this point it looks very hopeful,” she said.
Additionally, the board will continue to move forward with the permitting process from the U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers for the proposed reservoir project. The state earmarked $2 million for the county to pursue the permit in 2008. The County has not received the money yet because it is a lengthy process full of “red tape,” Poole said.
