Buchanan Farmer’s Market

Vendors and shoppers are welcome to the Buchanan Farmer’s Market opening day on Thursday, April 29, from 7 a.m. to noon and every Thursday through the fall. There is a $5 fee for vendors to cover advertising costs. Fresh and locally grown produce will be available, as well as concessions, at the Buchanan Methodist Church parking lot, on the corner of Georgia Highway 120 and U.S. Highway 27. HC Senior Center

The Haralson County Senior Center is taking reservations for an October trip to Branson, Mo. Contact Rhonda at the Senior Center in Buchanan at 770-646-2029 to sign up by June 10. The center also holds aerobics at 10 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There is also BINGO at 10 a.m. every last Tuesday of the month sponsored by Southern Traditions. Patterson reunion

The annual Patterson reunion will be held April 25 at Poplar Springs Primitive Baptist Church near Bowdon. It will be held from noon to 3 p.m. with a picnic lunch at 1 p.m. For information call 770-537-4275.

Kindergarten Pre-Registration

2010-2011 Pre-Kindergarten Registration for Haralson County Schools will be held May 3 through 7 from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day. To register in Buchanan, go to Building Blocks Pre-K or call Patty Malone at 770-646-9879 for more information. To register in Tallapoosa, go to Tallapoosa Primary School or call Jennifer Dobbs at 770-574-7444 for more information. Children registering for Pre-K must be 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2010.

Ballroom Dancing

Grab a partner and join us for Dance Classes on Mondays. Session I begins on May 3 from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. for four weeks at Sewell Mill. The cost of the class is $30 per person per session, and the instructor is Debra Cleckler. Session I will be the Waltz, Fox Trot and Two Step. Book Club

The Tallapoosa lunch bunch book club will meet at 1 p.m. May 4 in the Tallapoosa Library reading room to discuss the book, “The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch.” The group meets the first Tuesday of each month in the library. New members are welcome. For info call Karen at 770-574-3124.

Osteoporosis program

“Dinner with a Doctor,” a program on prevention and treatment of osteoporosis will be held at the Temple Senior Center on Rome Street from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on May 13. The cost is $5, which includes a light, calcium-rich meal, the program, screening and handouts. The program features Sharon Baker, BSN, MN, and Dr. Kelvin Burton. Bremen Senior Play

The Bremen Senior Center members will preform the play “Mama’s House” on May 6, 7 and 8, at 7 p.m. at Sewell Mill. Tickets cost $5 and are available at the Bremen Senior Center.

Downtown Bremen

Downtown Bremen is looking for local growers and craft people to start a Farmer’s Market every Friday May through August. We will have indoor space available inside Sewell Mill in case of rain. For more information, contact Kristen 770-537-2331

Bremen Big Bark Festival

Downtown Bremen is hosting the First annual Bremen Big Bark Festival on May 29. We will be celebrating all creatures big and small. All money raised will go to the Haralson County Animal Shelter. Vendor space is available, contact Kristen 770-537-2331.

Tall Tales Writing Contest

Warren P. Sewell Memorial Library of Bremen announces the 6th Annual Tall Tales Writing Contest for middle school and high school age students. Applications and topics are now available. Essays and applications should be turned into the library no later than Saturday, April 24. Prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in 6th - 7th, 8th - 9th, and 10th - 12th grade age groups. Drug Seminar

Please join us on May 5 for a Drugs Don’t Work Seminar featuring Chuck Wade, President and CEO of The Council on Alcohol and Drugs. Mr. Wade has been the state director of Drugs Don’t Work in Georgia for the past 13 years. He won awards from the DEA and from the FBI for outstanding service in the field of law enforcement. Learn about the benefits of and how to become a certified drug-free workplace. Certified drug-free workplaces in Georgia receive a 7.5 percent discount on workers’ comp insurance premiums. The seminar will be at the Haralson County Chamber of Commerce, 70 Murphy Campus Blvd., Waco, from 11:30 to 1pm. Lunch is $6, and an RSVP to 770-537-5594 is required by May 3.

Beard Contest

As part of the sesquicentennial celebration we will have the longest beard contest. The contest will take place at the fashion show at 6 p.m. Sept. 3. The categories of awards will be Best Groomed, Longest, Fullest and Most Original beards. We would welcome all that are able to take part. To encourage participants, the beard contest we will also have the Tallapoosa Clink. The Clink is a Jail that will hold all those who do not have a beard. We will have permits for sale at city hall closer to the event. Any man that purchases a permit will need to keep that permit with him throughout the weekend to keep from being placed in the Tallapoosa Clink.

WHES Council Meeting

West Haralson Elementary School Council Meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, in the WHES Multipurpose Room. All parents and guardians are welcome. We will be holding elections for new parent council members for the upcoming 2010-11 school year. Please attend the May meeting and let your voice be heard.

A Taste of Chocolate

You are invited to a very special Bremen Junior Woman’s Club fund-raising event with exquisite chocolate treats, fun and fellowship from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at the Rock Building in Bremen. HC Trout Fishing Rodeo

The Haralson County Wildlife Association would like to invite you to the 29th Annual Haralson County Trout Fishing Rodeo that will be held on Saturday, May 8. The event will be at Jimmy Smith’s farm on Corinth Poseyville Road in Bremen Georgia from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children through the age of 15, Senior Citizens 65 and over and handicapped persons will be eligible for fishing and a goody bag. There will also be hundreds of prizes given away throughout the day. Hot dogs, drinks, cookies and ice cream will be provided at no charge. Annual Food Drive

The National Association of Letter Carriers Annual Food Drive will be Saturday, May 8. Please leave non-perishable items in your mail box! All proceeds will benefit two local food banks, Haralson Ministries and Kingdom Rock Family Food Bank.

Reception

The former employees of Dr. Robert C. Hines are holding a reception honoring him for his service and dedication to the community from 3 to 5 p.m. Sat. May 1, at the Tallapoosa First Baptist Church.
