With school out for the summer, the Paulding Board of Education had a very limited action agenda at its July 20 meeting with only two recommendations from Superintendent Cliff Cole, both unanimously approved.

Cole recommended a continuation of hosted support from Compass Learning for another year. The district is required to submit a continuation support order form which details authorized schools, date range and the hosted cost for each school.

The program, used at all elementary schools and at East Paulding Middle School, where the program started, enables students to use Compass Learning at night and during the summer from their homes.

The district will pay $59,400 for the program during the next year.

Board member Michael Skelton questioned why different time frames were shown for some of the schools, and Cole said he would get clarification.

“It seems that we should do all middle schools or none,” said board member Kim Cobb.

District staff informed the board that two other middle schools had worked with the program but budget issues would prevent other schools from being included.

Athletic equipment and uniforms from all middle schools were declared to be surplus, with an option for private sale.

Cobb asked if the equipment and uniforms might go to a recreation league.

“We first approached the high schools for their feeder programs, and if there was no interest the uniforms and equipment could go to recreation leagues and to others,” replied David Colvard, executive director for safety and athletics.

Skelton asked if the funds received from sales would go back to the individual middle schools, and Cole responded, “yes, because that was where they were purchased.”
