The Tigers took a 21-20 lead after the first quarter and led 45-43 at the half. Douglas County started to pull away in the third quarter, taking a 66-59 lead. Cullman tried to fight back late but the Tigers maintained a lead until the end, winning by seven points.
“Cullman is a fundamentally sound team and they are big inside,” said DCHS coach Joby Boydstone. “This was our second game back together as a complete team. This tournament will help us build chemistry and work the kinks out before starting region play in January.”
Jalen Thornton led the Tigers with 20 points in the game. Corey Tillery followed with 19, hitting six three’s in the process.
Freshmen Brandon Robinson and Kalen Cliffton both stepped up for 12 points against Cullman. K’Ja Johnson added 12 points as well.
Douglas County combined for 13 3-pointers in the game.
They will play again in the tourney starting tonight at 8:30 p.m.
