Bremen keeps playoff hopes alive

The Bremen High School football team used a 526-yard rushing effort to keep its postseason hopes alive in a 57-29 victory at Temple on Friday night at Rogers Stadium.

The Blue Devils (5-5, 4-4 Region 5-AA) wrapped up the regular season with the must-win and now need Spencer to beat Kendrick next week to create a three-way tie for fourth place in the region standings.

Bremen held a 22-20 edge after the first quarter, then took over from there, holding the Tigers (1-8, 1-6) to just nine points the rest of the way.

Senior Cameron Porter led the way for Bremen’s ground attack with 151 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries, while Sean Stassie added 136 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. Fullback Voltaire Driver ran the ball 14 times for 114 yards and quarterback Trent McClure rushed for 91 yards on seven carries with a touchdown. Dylan Nappi rounded out the offensive scoring with a one-yard touchdown. Defensively, Josh Johnson had a pick-six for Bremen.

Temple’s offense totaled 295 yards, with 148 coming from the ground. Myles Simmons rushed for 71 yards on 12 carries with one touchdown. Quarterback Elijah McFarland passed for 147 yards and two touchdowns, going 6-for-15. Simmons also had a 79-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
