Ira Junior Smith, age 80, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Thursday morning, January 31, 2013. He was born May 19, 1932, in Carrollton, Georgia, the son of the late Ira B. Smith and Iva Dell Harper Smith.

He formerly worked as a carpenter with Richards & Associates and was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Melba Jean Weldon Smith; brothers, James Edward Smith and Dennis Smith; and a grandson, Jonathan Smith.

Survivors include his children, Randy and Cheri Smith of Carrollton, Garry Smith of Fort Payne, Alabama and Becky Smith of Carrollton; brothers, W. T. Smith and Denver Smith, both of the Sand Hill community, Calvin Smith of Bremen and Elwyn Smith of Franklin, Georgia; grandchildren, Scott Smith of Douglasville, Adrienne Smith Frashier of Decatur, Alabama, Ashley Horsley Crews of Carrollton and Dustin Horsley of Whitesburg; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 2 p.m. from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Pastor Don Johnson and Pastor Jerry Faver officiating. Pallbearers will be Mickey Smith, Michael Farmer, Billy Miller, Josh Brooks, Denver Smith, and Calvin Smith.

Interment will follow in Temperance CM Church Cemetery.
