UWG football player Donovan Jackson was named GSC Defensive Player of the Week while cross country runner Tiffany Wommack was GSC Freshman of the Year.
Jackson had six tackles to go along with a pair of interceptions, one of which was returned for an touchdown. The score increased the Wolves lead to 38-23 in the fourth quarter, all but putting the game away. The junior safety's second pick of the game did end it as UWG was able to run out the clock in the victory.
For Wommack it was her performance at the GSC Championships in Hoover, Ala. that earned her the honors as she finished the 5k race in 20 minutes and seven seconds. The time was good enough for first team conference honors, as well.
Briana Crawford (20:52.5) also picked up first team honors with her finish making it the first time since 2000 that UWG had multiple first team members. It was the second GSC award for Crawford who was second team during her freshman year.
A third UWG runner was honored as Elyse Boileau was named second team All-GSC.
On the men's cross country side Dan Moffit picked up second team honors will his performance on Saturday. It was the second award for Moffit who was All-Region in 2010.
The GSC/Sunshine State Conference crossover weekend was not kind to the UWG volleyball team as they dropped all four matches.
On Friday the Wolves (10-13, 5-5 GSC) fell 3-0 against Florida Southern before dropping a four-set match against Rollins. On Saturday West Georgia didn't fare any better being swept by Tampa and another four-set loss against Saint Leo.
UWG will return to conference play tonight as they host Shorter at 7 p.m.
The UWG women's soccer team followed a 2-0 loss against Shorter on Saturday with a 3-0 defeat at Union on Monday.
Saturday's game against Shorter was scoreless through the first 82 minutes before the Hawks scored two goals in under two minutes to take control of the game and earn the win.
Monday's game followed a different path as Union scored a pair of goals early and added another one late.
The Wolves (5-8-3, 2-4-2 GSC) will return home to face West Florida on Friday at 7 p.m.
