Mr. Murphy was born in Haralson County on Jan. 20, 1929. He was the son of the late Joseph Murphy and the late Hattie Jones Murphy. He served in the United States Air Force for more than 20 years, including service in Vietnam.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Daniel; and one brother, Joe Murphy.
Survivors include a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m. at Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel in Buchanan with Rev. Buddy Gentry officiating. Music will be by Rev. Buddy Gentry. Burial will follow in Felton Memory Gardens with Mike Murphy, Larry Murphy, Kim Murphy, Amos Sparks, Danny Hutcheson and Chase Croft serving as pallbearers.
Military honors will be provided at the graveside.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, Feb. 3, from 1-3 p.m.
