The Central High School football team bounced back from a frustrating loss last week with a 35-0 drudging of Jackson, Atlanta on Friday night at Roy Richards Memorial Stadium for Senior Night.

Central clinched a Class AAA state playoff berth with the win and now have the potential to earn a No. 2 seed and first-round home playoff game.

The Lions (5-4, 4-2 Region 4-AAA) wracked up 307 yards on the ground, led by sophomore Jayleen Terry, who finished with 129 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. It was senior Stephon O’Neal who started the scoring, however, finding the end zone from six yards out to give Central an early 7-0 lead.

Central then put together a 17-play, nine-minute drive that culminated in a four-yard Terry plunge for the 14-0 lead.

The Lions put the game away in the second half, scoring on their first three possession, with O’Neal adding his second score of the game on a two-yard run, followed by sophomore signal-caller Wesley Long added a pair of touchdown runs of one and five yards.

The Central defense recorded its first shutout of the season, never allowing the Jaguars (4-4, 2-3) into the red zone all night. Josh Dunson, Kirey Thompson and Dresden Thornton all had interceptions, while Payton Arbeau forced a fumble

Central now travels to Chapel Hill (5-3, 4-1) next week to wrap up the regular season, where it could potentially secure the No. 2 seed from Region 4-AAA and host the first round of the state playoffs with a victory.
