Mrs. Saxon was born August 19, 1922, to the late James Eugene and Lenora Copeland Wright. She graduated from Bowdon High School in 1940. On August 20, 1945, she married Robert Hagan Saxon who preceded her in death in 1985.
The Saxons were owner-operators of Saxon Grocery in Bowdon for nearly 40 years. In addition to the store, Mrs. Saxon also worked at Sewell’s, Mary Holland’s Dress Shop and J & M Gift Shop, all in Bowdon. She was a devoted member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Burwell and loved activities with the Young at Heart Club. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and visiting with friends, but more than anything she loved spending time with her family.
Also preceding her in death were her brothers: Herdice, Clyde and Hugh Wright; her sisters: Effie Mae Wright Craven, Alice Wright Walden, Dana Wright Phillips and Annette Wright Barr; and a special niece, Betty Jean Jackson.
Survivors include her daughters and their husbands: Vickie and Mike Smith, Susan and Kerry Lovvorn, and Jean and David Thornhill; her grandchildren, Chris and Brandy Smith, Jennifer and Brian Goode, Lanny and Erin Smith, Andrew and Crystal Lovvorn, Whitney and Geordie Stewart, and Holly Thornhill; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church. Rev. Wayne Monroe and Rev. Dr. Shirley Wright will officiate. Pallbearers will be Chris Smith, Lanny Smith, Andrew Lovvorn, Brian Goode, Geordie Stewart, Bobby Barr, David Barr, Dale Morris, and Dusty Smith. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Prior to service, Mrs. Saxon’s body will lie in state at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour.
