Melanie Yvonne Pate Caldwell was born in Carroll County, Whitesburg, Ga., on Nov. 12, 1942. She would have celebrated her 70th birthday on Nov. 12, 2012. She died Sept. 4, 2012.

She is the daughter of the late Wilson Lamar (Red) Pate and Helen Geneva Carnes Pate. Ms. Caldwell was a member of the Sargent, Ga., Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Bob Caldwell and a sister Phyllis Jane Pate Huff.

Melanie lived at 15 Meadowview Lane, Newnan, Ga.

Survivors include a brother, Ronnie Pate of Whitesburg and two sisters, Myra Pate Kelly of Fraser, Mich., and Beverly Pate Byous of Carrollton; and many other relatives. She did not have any children, but helped her late husband raise his son Dayna Caldwell.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, at Antioch Baptist Church.
