Rev. Jimmy O. Henry, 74, of Whitesburg, Ga., passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at his home. He was born Feb. 3, 1938, in the Clem Community, the son of the late Alva O. Henry and Eva G. Watts Henry.

Rev. Henry retired as a section foreman from Norfolk Southern Railway with 41 years of service. He was a minister of the gospel for 48 years, having served from 1967 until 1975 at Temperance FCM, 1976 until 1984 at New Springs Southern Congregational Methodist Church, 1985 until 2009 at Rotherwood FCM and 2009 until 2012 at Corinth Baptist Church. Rev. Henry served in the U. S. Army from 1955 until 1958 and was a member of Rotherwood FCM.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Olin Henry, Paul Henry and Herman Henry; sisters, Anna Lou Rakestraw and Frances Poore.

Survivors include his wife, to whom he was married for 53 years, Linda Brown Henry; children, Lyn and Chester Green of Whitesburg, Jimbo and Debbie Henry of Clem, Eva and Mandel Sticher of Roopville, Rebecca and Charles Walker of Villa Rica, Jason and Tina Henry of Whitesburg and Jesse and Dedra Henry of Carrollton; sister, Helen Holloway of Whitesburg; brothers, Bill Henry and Tom Henry, both of Whitesburg, and Larry Henry of Gretna, VA.; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Rotherwood FCM with the Revs. Charles Dixon and Cobb Hallmark officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Music will be rendered by Jimbo Henry, Dedra Henry and Jason Henry. Pallbearers will be Mike Reese, Todd Deegan, Jacob Henry, Cody Elmore, Caleb Henry, Israel Henry and Andrew Henry. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Jones, Charles Phillips, James Williford, Brown Thurman, Horace Jones, Edward Driver, Buddy Gaddy, Charles Holloway and Charles Walker. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the American Legion Post No. 143 making the flag presentation. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions may be made in the Rev. Henry’s memory to your place of worship or favorite charity.
