The University of West Georgia football team landed eight players on the 2012 All-Gulf South Conference Team, which was released this week by the league office.

Four UWG players were first-team selections, while the other four earned second-team honors following the Wolves’ 3-7 campaign.

Leading the way on the first team were senior tight end Daniel Youssif, senior center Jordan Ritchey, senior cornerback Kelly Dawsey and senior defensive tackle Juan Pickett.

Second-team members included junior guard William Wright, sophomore tailback Seth Hinsley, junior linebacker Bobby Liggins and senior kicker Davis Brackett.

Ritchey and Wright were two of the anchors in the UWG rushing attack that saw the Wolves run for more than 2,000 yards on the season. West Georgia had two 100-yard rushers in a single game twice this season and freshman quarterback Dallas Dickey set a single-game school rushing mark for a quarterback of 110 yards against Delta State. Youssif was also a big part of that rushing attack, as well as hauling in 18 receptions for 83 yards on the year.

Hinsley was the third-leading rusher in the GSC this season, averaging 70.3 yards per game with four rushing scores. He broke the 100-yard plateau twice on the year, picking up 110 yards against Point and 115 yards against North Alabama.

Brackett had nine field goals and hit 33 extra points for the year, making him the sixth-leading scorer in the GSC.

Liggins was the leading tackler for the Wolves this season with 70 stops. He recorded 10 tackles or more three times on the year, including 11 in UWG’s victory over Tusculum. In that same game, Liggins finished closed out the win with an interception in the final minutes.

Dawsey didn’t get a lot of action this season — and for good reason. The shutdown corner had 28 tackles, two pass breakups and also blocked an extra point against Delta State.

Pickett has been one of the top defensive linemen for the Wolves over the past four seasons, and he was the fourth-leading tackler in 2012. He had three sacks and six tackles for a loss in his final year at West Georgia.

UWG’s four All-GSC First Team selections is the most for the program since 2005. Also, the overall total of eight all-conference players is UWG’s highest since 2001 when 11 West Georgia players were honored.
