Lithia Springs and New Manchester will head into the region cross country meet this Saturday at White Oaks Park in Dallas, Ga.

The 2012 season has been a tough one for both the Panther and Jaguar girls and boys teams.

Lithia Springs managed to field a boys and girls team but are heading into Saturday’s competition ranked eighth out of 10 teams on the boys side in the 5-AAAAAA region and ninth out of nine teams on the girls side.

New Manchester’s season has been just as tough. The Jaguar boys are currently placed 10th out of 10 teams in the 5-AAAAA region and were not able to field a full team on the girls side.

However, all that could change in one race as early season results do not matter in a one-meet take all sport such as cross country.

The Lithia boys will be lead in the region meet by their top runner, Jesus Murillo. Murillo’s best time of the season was 18:35.58, which places him 39th among all runners in the region. Rounding out the top seven runners for the Lions in 2012 are Weston Rohling (18:54.69, 48th), Kory Burns (20:00.80, 63rd), Caleb Peppers (20:09.53, 66th), Sergio Ruiz (20:25.91, 71st), Luis Vazquez (21:26.48, 79th), and Alex Nichols (21:42.58, 81st).

The New Manchester boys are lead by Malik Hearst, who has a season best time of 19:28.34, placing him 57th in the region individually. The Jaguars top runners this year are Daquante’ Pearson (19:28.66, 58th), Orlandis Early (19:33.09, 59th), Adarius Hampton (25:25.19, 84th), Nicholas Douglas (26:01.00, 85th), and Emmanuel Qkim (29:12.00 (86th)

North Paulding and Allatoona will be the teams to beat in the 5-AAAAA boys race. North Paulding is led by Callen Smith, who has a second individual best time of 17:03.51. Allatoona is led by Wesley Trussell (17:05.93, 3rd).

The top individual runner, Michael Williams, comes from the fourth ranked team, South Paulding. Williams is the only sub 17 minute runner in the field with a best time of 16:47.16. Rounding out the region in order are East Pauliding, Hiram, Woodland, Villa Rica, Lithia, Paulding, and New Manchester.

In the girls competition, Lithia Springs will be led by Angelica Henderson, who has a 55th individual time of 24:33.00.
