The Carrollton High School girls cross country team captured a third-place finish at the Region 5-AAAA Championship at Clinton Farms on Thursday, qualifying for the GHSA Cross Country Championships on its home course next Saturday.

The Lady Trojans finished with 78 points, trailing Alexander (24) and Columbus (72). The Carrollton boys fell just shy of qualifying, coming in fifth place with 99 points. Alexander won the meet with 54 points, followed by Sandy Creek (59), LaGrange (63) and Columbus (91). Only the top four teams qualify for state.
