The Bremen High School girls cross country team took four of the top five spots on its way to the Region 5-AA title on Wednesday at McIntosh Reserve.

Ashley Camp took the individual title with a time of 21 minutes, 7.47 seconds, while Mary Everett (22:33.91), Allie Poindexter (23:12.99) and Morgan Wallace (23.31.02) took third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Madison Holmes (25:16.91) rounded out the scoring runners in 11th.

Molly Harper (24:55.24) took the top time for Bowdon in ninth, as the Red Devilettes qualified for state for the first time ever with a third-place team finish. Victoria Johnson (26:44.33) and Whitney McClure (26:47.17) took 19th and 20th, as Jenna Lane (27:51.41) and Hailey Jordan (28:45.85) completed the top-five finishers.

On the boys side, Heard County qualified for state with a third-place finish, as Orlando Burgos (16:37.45) came in first individually by more than a minute.

Region 4-AAA

After a third-place finish at the Region 4-AAA Championships at Clinton Nature Preserve, the Central High School boys cross country team will compete next week at the state championships on the Carrollton City Schools campus.

The Lions were led by Josh Redmond's 13th-place finish, as they were able to qualify as a team.

While the girls did not qualify as a team, Anna Leah Deese's 20:43.42 finish was good enough for fourth place overall and an individual trip to the state meet.

Region 5-AAAAA

The Villa Rica High School girls and boys cross country teams competed at the Region 5-AAAAA Championships at White Oak Park in Dallas on Saturday afternoon.

While the girls just missed qualifying as a team, finishing fifth — the top four teams continue to state — one Lady Wildcat runner will race at Carrollton next Saturday. Abbigayle Mathis took sixth place overall with a time of 20:06 to qualify individually.

Behind Mathis was Haley Parham (20:43.10) in 11th, while Angerika Colbert (22:36.90), Miranda Brown (22:45.20) and Melissa Conchas (22:52.70) finished one right after another taking 32nd, 33rd and 34th, respectively.

On the boys side, it was Rodney Hill (18:12.90) leading the way in 24th place, followed by Deandre Dixon (19:02.20), Cody Federer (19:39.70), Jared Hyde (19:57.10) and Sean Teters (20:12.00). The VR boys finished eighth as a team.
