Bruce was born in Seville, Spain, on January 28, 1958, to Major Leroy Little, USAF Ret., and Norma Hirst Little and grew up swimming competitively, teaching swimming to hundreds of children, reading voraciously while remembering everything and adventuring into every part of life he could experience. An exceptionally accomplished athlete and brilliant scholar, Bruce’s zest for living, love for his country and his gift of understanding and accepting people unconditionally made the whole world his home. A University of Georgia alumni, he was the Big Dawg Nation incarnate. Bruce savored every moment in time with passion, appreciated the essence of beauty and gave his whole heart with integrity and honor making his word his bond. He never met a stranger, cared more about others than him and relentlessly pursued making the world a safer place. He was a shooting star and will be deeply, deeply missed by all those who loved him.
He is preceded in death by his beloved mother Norma and father Leroy and is survived by his loving sister, Dianne Eileen Little (Del); brother, Gilbert Lee Little; sister-in-law Karen; nephews, David and Drew, his heart’s life partner, Elizabeth V. Womble, and the many, many friends with whom he shared his life and times.
Bruce’s memorial service and interment will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Protestant Cemetery in Bowdon, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Saint Mary’s Hospital Foundation, 1230 Baxter St, in Athens, GA 30606.
