Mrs. Denney was born in Carrollton on February 15, 1931, the daughter of the late Thomas Watson Martin and Flonnie Mae Dasher Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Frank Denney, on March 23, 1992; by a son, Thomas F. Denney, on August 10, 2012; by a granddaughter, Anna May Elizabeth Worley; and by a brother, Thomas Earl Martin.
Mrs. Denney served as secretary-treasurer for the J. F. Denney Construction Co., Inc. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class, and the Circle No. 7. She was a former member of the Pilot Club, the Jaycettes, the Elkettes and the Rome Symphony Guild and at one time was active at the YMCA and with the Rome Power Squadron. She was a graduate of Carrollton High School and attended Berry College.
Survivors include one son, Jay (Jodi) Denney, Marietta; two daughters, Carmen (Jim) Henderson of Rome, and Michelle (Dan) Worley of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren, Jena and Jordan Denney, Stephanie (Kyle) Dunton, Jimmy (Catherine) Henderson, Jeff Henderson, Rebecca (Eve) Olvera and Danny (Ashley) Worley; five great-grandchildren, Will and Mary Ellen Dunton, Laurelin and Samuel Henderson and Isabelle Worley; three sisters, Helen (Jim) Cox of East Point, Wynelle (Jack) Wiggins of Lancaster, Calif., and Vernelle (Pat) Moore of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 19, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Rome, with the Rev. Larry Caywood officiating. Interment were in the Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, Rome.
The Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers.
