For the first time in Lenny Williams’ six seasons in charge of the Oak Mountain Academy boy’s basketball program, the Warriors are off to a 5-0 start following their 57-43 home victory over Furtah Prep on Tuesday evening.

“It was a battle. We were up 18 at one point and they came back and cut the lead down to seven. But we were able to hang in there and pull it out,” Williams said.

Wade Mason posted a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the Warriors, while Kelton Hunt scored 15 points with 10 boards and James Hughes got the team going, scoring all 10 of his points in the first half.

The OMA girls also improved to 5-0 behind a 52-18 win over Furtah Prep, getting a pair of 12-points nights from Jessi Fuller and Merideth Sammon.

Oak Mountain opens region play on Friday night at Heirway Christian. The girls tip at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.

In other prep basketball action from Tuesday:

Central boys 54, Heard County 42: Senior guard Kahlil Wynn poured in 20 points to lead the Lions (1-1), while Justis Ward added eight points in the road win.

Haralson County girls 37, Cleburne County (Ala.) 22: The Rebelettes (1-2) got their first win of the young season behind an 18-point effort from Skye Overby, while Andrea Lasseigne added eight points and Mahogany Harris posted six points. HC returns to action on Friday when it plays host to Mt. Zion at 7 p.m.

Cleburne County boys 58, Haralson County 49: The Rebels (1-2) rallied back from a 10-point deficit entering the fourth quarter to take the lead with three minutes remaining, but weren’t able to hang on for the home win.

Lane Fortune led the Rebels with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Nii-Okai Reindorf added 11 points and eight boards, Jimothy Mitchell had eight points and London Smith finished with eight points and seven rebounds.

Central JV boys 33, Heard County 14: Chris Thornton and Lamar Daniel both finished with eight points to lead the Lions (1-1).

Carrollton Junior High girls 51, Heard County 33: Ansley Barge led the Lady Trojans with a 10-point effort.

Oak Mountain Middle School girls 16, North Point 13: The Lady Warriors held off a late North Point rally to hang on for the win.

Cumberland boys 82, Holy Ground 25: The Stallions were led by Chandler Dedman and Alexander Jackson with six points apiece in the loss on Monday, as point guard Jordan Edwards went down with a shoulder injury.

Cumberland boys JV 62, Holy Ground 36: The Stallions were paced by a nine-point effort from Blake Lee, while Michael Yates and Tate Traylor eached finished with eight points.
