The Lady Jaguars of New Manchester lost a hard fought battle to Allatoona 61-51 Tuesday evening.

The Lady Jags went up 11-7 after the first period and led 27-19 at the half. However, Allatoona scored 20 points in the third period and 22 in the fourth to win by 10.

“We talked about not losing focus at halftime but we missed some assignments in the second half and started giving up some open shots,” said NMHS coach Josh Martin. “It was a four point game with two minutes left but were not able to take advantage of some turnovers late and then they were able to hit their foul shots at the end.”

Deesha Brefford had her best varsity performance of her young career with a Lady Jaguar team high 16 points. Team captain Alyssa Harris followed with 13.

“Deesha had a great night and hit two three pointers,” said Martin. “Alyssa did a good job on the glass going up against a big girl and grabbed 10 rounds. She was also 7-of-10 from the line.”

Jonika Jones added seven points for New Manchester.

Results from the New Manchester boys game were not available by deadline but will be provided online at DouglasCountySentinel.com and in the Thursday edition of the Douglas County Sentinel.

The Jags and Lady Jags will be back in action on Friday when they host Rome at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

61-51.
