Bremen boys handle Haralson

The Bremen High School boys’ basketball team knocked off county rival Haralson County on Tuesday evening in a 57-44 affair to claim its third win in the past four games heading into this week’s West Georgia Holiday Classic.

Nick Forrister led all scorers with 21 points for the Blue Devils (3-4), while Josh Johnson added 13 points and Trent McClure finished with 11.

Haralson County (1-7) was led by Lane Fortune with 11 points, while Jake Carnes added nine points. The Rebels are now off until they open play at the Haralson County Invitational Tournament on Dec. 28, while Bremen plays Central on Thursday night at 8:30 at Central in the quarterfinal round of the West Georgia Holiday Classic.

In other prep basketball action from Tuesday:

Villa Rica boys 83, Douglas County 75:
The Wildcats (10-1) overcame a nine-point halftime deficit in Douglasville to prevail for their sixth straight victory, as Xavier Hughes erupted to score 24 of his team-best 28 points in the second half.

VR’s Kelvin Bonds posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Delano Mims added 14 points and Josh Lay finished with 10.

Cat coach Jason Robinson also noted that Yassar El-Amin and Tye Hill gave great defensive efforts, especially in the second half after starting guard Rodney Hill was lost to injury early in the game.

“It was just a great team effort defensively. I’m really proud of our guys. We just got tremendous defensive play from our guards down the stretch. A good team win,” Robinson said.

Oak Mountain boys 65, Skipstone Academy 51: The Warriors (9-1) got a huge night from sophomore forward Wade Mason, who finished with 20 points and a career-high 20 rebounds, while senior guard James Hughes also posted a double-double with 17 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Blake Mason added 13 points and five assists.

Oak Mountain girls 59, Skipstone Academy 37: The Lady Warriors wrapped up the 2012 calender season a perfect 10-0, getting a 16-point effort from Jordan Francis, while McKena Lipham dropped in 13 points. OMA is now off until Jan. 4 when it battles region foe Dawson Street.

Carrollton Junior High girls 39, Bay Springs 33: The Lady Trojans were led by Ansley Barge with 14 points, while Kim McKinnie added 11 points on Monday night.

Prep Wrestling

The Central High School junior-varsity wrestling team swept a tri-match at Temple on Tuesday evening, defeating Lithia Springs and the host Tigers.

Leading the way for the Lions were Trilan Howell at 126 pounds (2-0, 2 pins), Jake Toney at 132 (2-0, 2 pins), Austin Folds at 182 (2-0, 2 pins), Gabe Wiggins at 182 (2-0, pin), Austin Kilgore at 195 (2-0, 2 pins) and Michael Paea at 195 (1-1, pin). Central coach Marcus Marenda said Paea is a first-year wrestler that is making tremendous strides early in the season.

Rounding out Central’s finishers were River Duncan at 138 (0-1), Conner Eldred at 152 (1-1, pin), Quintin Houston at 195 (0-1), Simon Barber at 106 (0-1), Colton Kelly at 113 (0-1) and Hunter Cornelison at 120 (0-1).
