Bill “Pop” Butler, age 94, of Douglasville passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012. He was born on October 5, 1918, in Randolph County, Alabama, to the late Hosea Butler and the late Mattie Palmer Butler.

He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church since 1957 and served as a deacon for more than 50 years. He was in civil service having retired from Atlanta Army Depot after nearly 30 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila Butler; son-in-law, Terry G. McKenney; six sisters and five brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Syble Lucille Easterwood Butler; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Robert Bowman of Douglasville; daughter, Bronnie McKenney of Whitesburg; sons and daughters-in-law, Wade and Teresa Butler of Douglasville and Mark and Cindy Butler of Winston; grandchildren, Frank Bowman, Robin Bowman Young, Micah Butler, Matthew Butler, Tina Wood, Chastity Butler Diamond, Chad Butler; 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted from Hightower’s Memorial Chapel in Douglasville on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dexter Landers and Reverend Johnny White officiating. Frank Bowman, Micah Butler, Matthew Butler, Chad Butler, Adam Wood, Austin Bowman and Tyler Bowman will be serving as pallbearers.

Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 30, 2012, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
