In the first game of the new year the Temple and Mt. Zion high school boys basketball team needed a little extra time on the court before the Tigers pulled out the 72-70 overtime win on the road Thursday night.

Rashaan Dobbs had a game-high 22 points for the Tigers (3-9) with Trevor Shell adding 18 points and Elijah McFarland chipping in with another 15 points. After a slow start to the season Temple has now won three of their last four contests.

The Eagles (6-4) had four scorers reach double figures as Corey Loftin (21), Chris Blanchard (15), Nathan Bernhardt (11) and T.K. Tuggle (10) had at least 10 points in the loss.

Both teams will now turn to region play as MZ will host Darlington at 8:30 p.m. and the Tigers will take on Heard County at home at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
