Although a major election year has just ended, the Carroll County elections office is already making preparations for this year’s numerous city elections in November.

The county posted several legal advertisements Friday, listing the offices to be on the Nov. 5 ballot and the required qualifying dates and fees.

“It’s a state law that requires this information to be published in the legal organ of the county before Feb. 1,” said county Elections Supervisor Becky Deese, elections supervisor. “It does seem like a long time before the elections and I don’t know why it’s done so early. It does give people a chance to know about the opportunity to run for office.”

The contests this year will include mayoral races in Temple and Whitesburg; school board races in Carrollton; and city council races in Bowdon, Carrollton, Mt. Zion, Temple, Villa Rica and Whitesburg.

Qualifying for all the elections will be from 8:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 26 through Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 4:30 p.m.

The last day to register to vote in any of these elections is Oct. 7. If a runoff is needed, it will be held on Dec. 3.

Here’s a listing of all seats on the ballot, the qualifying fees and people currently holding the offices:

Bowdon City Council: Ward 1, now held by Ray Garrett, and Ward 4, now held by Martin Johnson. Qualifying fee is $43.20.

Carrollton City Council: Ward 1, now held by Gerald Byrd, and Ward 2, now held by Mike Patterson. Qualifying fee is $108.

Carrollton School Board: Ward 2, now held by Joe McGinnis; Ward 3, now held by Dr. Jason Mount; and at-large seat, now held by David J. Godwin. Qualifying fee is $108.

Mt. Zion City Council: Post 3, now held by Andrew Richie, and Post 4, now held by Bobby Mullenix. Qualifying fee is $15.

Temple mayor: Now held by Rick Ford. Qualifying fee, $90.

Temple City Council: Ward 1, now held by Terron Bivins, and Ward 2, now held by Jay Mann. Qualifying fee is $72.

Villa Rica City Council: Ward 3, now held by Rusty Dean; Ward 4, now held by Patrick Henrickson; and Ward 5, now held by Woody Holland. Qualifying fee is $80.

Whitesburg mayor: Now held by Amy Williford. Qualifying fee is $108.

Whitesburg City Council: Ward 1, now held by Jay Williford; Ward 2, now held by William Smolar; Ward 3, now held by Lucy Gamble; and Ward 4, now held by Wayne Posey. Qualifying fee is $36.
