The Golden Globe-nominated actor who starred in the Christian drama film “Fireproof” will be coming to Carrollton in February.

Kirk Cameron, 42, will take the stage at Carrollton High School as part of his “Love Worth Fighting For” tour, an event series in which Cameron shares the biblical principles of marriage and how to apply them to daily, modern life.

The event will be held in the high school’s auditorium on Sunday, Feb. 10, at 4 p.m.

Cameron is a television and film actor and producer known for his performances in the film “Fireproof” and the television series “Growing Pains.”

The event is hosted by Southern Hills Christian Church in Carrollton and sponsored by Feed Your Faith, a nonprofit ministry.

The actor headlining the event converted from atheism to Christianity when he was 17, when the ABC television series was at its commercial peak.

“When I was working on ‘Growing Pains,’ if you’d told me I’d be doing this Love Worth Fighting For tour, I would have laughed,” Cameron said in a telephone interview. “But now I’ve been married to my wife, Chelsea, for 21 years and we have six kids, and marriage is at the top of my list of the things I need to preserve.”

Since converting, Cameron has become an outspoken believer in Christian values, especially how they tie in to human relationships.

“I knew the best way to learn about marriage would be to teach it and make sure I practice what I preach,” Cameron said.

As the featured speaker for the conferences, the star of the “Left Behind” movie series has proven to draw large crowds, with more than 65,000 people attending last year’s tour.

The event is marketed and managed by the Carrollton-based talent agency Consumed Agency, owned by Carrollton residents Mark and Sherry Sullivan, who call Southern Hills their home church.

“It’s light-hearted and loose,” Mark Sullivan said. “It’s not a stiff, suit-and-tie kind of event. Kirk brings a lot of humor to it before sharing his message.”

Sullivan said the series is based around “Fireproof,” which was the highest-grossing independent film in 2008, and the role Cameron played in the film.

“It’s all about the biblical principles laid out in the movie and how to adapt them to our daily lives,” Sullivan said. “It’s good for couples who are in every stage of their relationships — from those who are happily married to those who are seeing their marriages falter a bit.”

Cameron also encouraged couples from every stage in a relationship — those dating, engaged, married, separated or even divorced — to attend the event.

“This is not just for solid marriages or marriages that are slipping,” Cameron said. “There are things worth fighting for, and marriage, children and faith should be at the top. Instead of fighting in our marriages, we should be fighting for our marriages.”

The actor will be joined by recording artist Warren Barfield, who performed the title theme for “Fireproof.”

The events are focused on “all areas of personal and spiritual relationships,” Cameron said, and truly “seek to help people in all stages of life.”

Tickets can be purchased at Southern Hills Christian Church on Highway 113 in Carrollton, or they can be purchased online at www.FeedYourFaith.org, where more information about the event can be found.

Tickets are $45 per couple in advance and $50 at the door. A group rate discount is offered, as well as a VIP ticket option, which includes VIP seating, an autograph session and a pre-event question-and-answer session with Cameron.

“We are excited to share this event with the people of the Carrollton area,” Cameron said. “Those attending will be part of something very special, as we will turn the movie into a live experience.”
