WRESTLING: Walker picks up two more wins for Chapel Hill

Chapel Hill’s Khyree Walker continued his undefeated streak on Tuesday with wins against Central-Carroll and Sandy Creek at Sandy Creek High School. Walker picked up pin-falls in both of his matches, providing the highlight once again for the Panthers, who lost both matches.

In the opening match, Chapel Hill took on Central, falling 42-23.

Central’s Levi Huckaba picked up the first win at the 160-pound weight class, pinning Panther Michael Hickman for a 6-0 lead. Central went up 12-0 after a forfeit win at 170 and neither team scored in a double forfeit at 182. Taking an 18-0 lead at 195, Chaz Velez pinned Will Wheeler for the victory.

Chapel Hill picked up its first victory of the night when Walker pinned Austin Kilgore at 220, cutting the deficit to 18-6.

After double forfeits at 285 and 106, Central’s Colton Kelly won by forfeit at 113 and Hunter Cornellison won the same way at 120 for a 30-6 advantage.

At 126, Timothy Duffey pinned Panther Devin Daniels to put Central up 36-6. Chapel Hill then rolled off three straight victories.

Malcom Hornes defeated Trilan Howard by tech fall, 17-2, at 132 and William Hohnson pinned Nic Cubitt at 138. A forfeit to Malik Hornes at 145 cut the deficit to 36-23 entering the last match. Central’s Jarrett Thomas ended the contest when he pinned Kemonte Figures at 152.

In the second match of the evening, Chapel Hill fell to Sandy Creek 40-29 as forfeits continued to plague the team.

The match started with two straight forfeits to Sandy Creek as Ricky Patton picked up the victory at 170 and Guillermo Galvan took the win at 182. Wheeler picked up the first points of the contest for the Panthers when he won by forfeit at 195.

In the first actual match of the contest, Walker dominated Jamaine Kuame, winning by pin-fall to take the 220-pound match. The score stood tied at 12-12.

Sandy Creek took the lead with a forfeit to Coleman Taylor at 285. After a double forfeit at 106, Kris Arellanc picked up another forfeit win for Sandy Creek at 113, giving them a 24-12 lead.

At 126, Chapel Hill struck back with a Daniels pin over Treison Johnson. Malcom Hornes then won by tech fall, 17-2, over Travis Lemay at 132. The Panthers now trailed by only a single point, 24-23.

The contest remained close over the next two matches. Trenton Rigby defeated William Johnson at 138 to put Sandy Creek up by seven. Malik Hornes say his first action of the day at 145, when he pinned Joseph Geter to cut the score to 30-20. However, Sandy Creek would win the final two matches for the victory.

Rahquaud McDaniel defeated Figures by major decision at 152 and Ethan Stubbs pinned Hickman at 160.

The Panthers will now prepare for the 4-AAA state wrestling meet at Central-Carroll today and Saturday.
