Lady Trojans roll past Alexander

The Carrollton High School girls’ basketball team used a 33-14 differential in the middle quarters to earn a 67-48 Region 5-AAAA road win at Alexander on Saturday evening in Douglasville, improving to 17-6 overall and 8-4 in region play.

Trailing 13-12 after the first quarter, Carrollton got things rolling and went up 27-19 at the half and took a 45-27 lead into the final quarter, where it built as much as a 27-point lead down the stretch before Lady Trojan coach Shon Thomaston pulled his starters.

Tatyana Jackson led the Lady Trojans with 19 points, 11 of which came in the third quarter, while Kenyata Hendrix added 13.

Carrollton returns to action on Tuesday night at 6 against Sandy Creek, which will be the annual Cancer Awareness/Survivor Event.

Bowdon girls 45, Manchester 38:
The Red Devilettes (11-8, 3-3 Region 5-AA) got a big home win over the Lady Blue Devils (7-11, 3-3), with Jacole Stephens and ReShay Brewer both posting 10 points.

Oak Mountain Academy girls 54, Praise Academy 18: The Lady Warriors (21-4) closed out the regular season with the victory, getting 14 points from Jessi Fuller, while Jordan Francis and Anna Piecoro both finished with 10. OMA will be the No. 1 seed for next week’s Region 4-A Tournament, which will be at Oak Mountain. The Lady Warriors face the winner of Tuesday’s Heirway/Solid Rock matchup on Thursday at 7 p.m.

OMA boys 66, Praise Academy 49: Blake Mason led the Warriors (20-5) with 17 points and six assists, while Wade Mason posted 16 points and 10 rebounds, Colton Pollard added 15 points and James Hughes had 13.

Carrollton JV boys 69, Alexander 65: The Trojans (16-3) closed out the season with a tight road win, getting a double-double of 27 points and 15 rebounds from Willie Byrd.

Villa Rica girls 55, South Paulding 39: On Friday, the Lady Cats (18-7, 10-3 Region 5-AAAAA) got a 20-point, 11-rebound effort from Britney Wright, while Melanie Daniel added 13 points.
